System & Hardware Requirements:

  • 180MB hard disk space available. 256 MB RAM. CD-ROM drive required for installation — not required for download installation. Internet connection required to search online databases. EndNote X1 files are compatible across Windows® and Mac OS X platforms. EndNote X1 is Unicode compliant.

Handheld Requirements:

  • Handheld device running Palm OS 4.x and higher. Serial or USB cable for HotSync operations. At least 16 MB of RAM.

Windows requirements:

  • Windows® 2000 —SP3 (some interface elements unsupported), XP (SP2), Vista. Pentium® 450-megahertz (MHz) or faster processor. To use MSI installation, it is necessary to have the latest Windows Updates installed.
  • EndNote X1 is compatible with the following word processing and text formats: Cite While You Write feature: Microsoft Word 2000, XP, 2003 and 2007. "Format Paper" feature: compatible with Microsoft Word, WordPerfect and other word processors that can save or export files in Rich Text Format (RTF) and Open Office format (ODT).

Mac OS X** (10.3.9 - 10.4.x).

  • PowerPC or Intel Macintosh 450 MHz or higher. Hard disk with 180 MB available. Cite While You Write: Microsoft Word X, 2004*. Format Paper feature: compatible with Rich Text Format (RTF) files and Open Office format (ODT) created by many word processors including OpenOffice, FrameMaker, AppleWorks and more.
