Derwent World Patents Index First View provides English translations of Japanese patents for all technologies within just one week of publication
Derwent World Patents Index First View (DWPI First View)
allows you to access details of all the latest Japanese JP-A patent applications
— which are not yet in Derwent World Patents Index — within
just one week or less from publication, and sometimes as little as one to two
days after publication.
A typical JP-A record in DWPI First View provides an English-language
translation of both the original author title and an abstract that highlights
the use and advantage of the invention. The abstract translation is accompanied
by a drawing image where applicable.
This English content for JP-A applications is created for DWPI First View
using Thomson Scientific’s proprietary Machine-Assisted Translation (MAT)
system. The MAT results are then post-processed by technical, bi-lingual staff
in Japan prior to publication, to improve the quality of the machine-translation.
These English translations are available for JP-A applications for all subject
areas without restriction within one week or less from publication.
You can easily identify these MAT-generated titles and abstracts by use of
the “MAT/FS” command in File WPIFV on STN, or the “RT=Machine
Translated” command in File 331 on Dialog.
